My PC actually rocks (with a little help)

So, I’ve been gaming with a crappy graphics card ever since I built my new PC one and a half years ago because I was waiting for DX10 cards to be released. When ATi’s Radeon HD 3870X2 was released I finally bought me a shiny new card to save me from the pits of low graphics settings…and it did indeed.

To illustrate my point, all the screenshots posted here were taken on my own PC. After reading through the Crysis TweakGuide I decided to tell the “optimal system settings” to sod off and got me a setup of settings ranging from medium to very high tailored to my own system. I also installed the Natural Mod, as recommended by the guide.

Now, Crysis looks quite stunning, even though my Windows XP install is full of junk and a bit slow and my processor is relatively mediocre-high compared to the latest bunch. It’s amazing what wonders a brand new graphics card can work. The game plays better now on high/very high than it did on low with my last card.

So, what I really want to say here is: don’t trust automatic “optimal settings”. Make your own. Anyone who’s got experience with gaming or have read the guide will already know this, but I’m at least going to testify to the fact that it works. I never thought a game would look this good on my PC. Ever.

Thank you, TweakGuides!
